General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING Read all safety warnings, instruc-tions, illustrations and specifica-tions provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all in-structions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cord-less) power tool.

Work area safety 

• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
  Electrical safety
• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded sur-faces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerat-ors. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of elec-tric shock.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carry-ing, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
• When operating a power tool outdoors, use an exten-sion cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suit-able for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
• If operating a power tool in a damp location is un-avoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protec-ted supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
  Personal safety
• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inatten-tion while operating power tools may result in serious per-sonal injury.
• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal in-juries.
• Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or en-ergising power tools that have the switch on invites acci-dents.
• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal in-jury.
• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jew-ellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
• If devices are provided for the connection of dust ex-traction and collection facilities, ensure these are con-nected and properly used. Use of dust collection can re-duce dust-related hazards.
• Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe in-jury within a fraction of a second.
  Power tool use and care
• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was de-signed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or re-move the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing ac-cessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
• Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for mis-alignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly main-tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into ac-count the working conditions and the work to be per-formed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
• Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.
  Service
• Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
  Hedge trimmer safety warnings
• Keep all parts of the body away from the blade. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Blades continue to move after the switch is turned off. A moment of inattention while oper-ating the hedge trimmer may result in serious personal in-jury.
• Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with the blade stopped and taking care not to operate any power switch. Proper carrying of the hedge trimmer will de-crease the risk of inadvertent starting and resultant per-sonal injury from the blades.
• When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer, al-ways fit the blade cover. Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will decrease the risk of personal injury from the blades.
• When clearing jammed material or servicing the unit, make sure all power switches are off and the power cord is disconnected. Unexpected actuation of the hedge trimmer while clearing jammed material or servi-cing may result in serious personal injury.
• Hold the hedge trimmer by insulated gripping sur-faces only, because the blade may contact hidden wir-ing or its own cord. Blades contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the hedge trimmer “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
• Keep all power cords and cables away from cutting area. Power cords or cables may be hidden in hedges or bushes and can be accidentally cut by the blade.
• Do not use the hedge trimmer in bad weather condi-tions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This decreases the risk of being struck by lightning.

Additional safety warnings

• This tool is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental cap-abilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concern-ing use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
• When working with the machine, always hold it firmly with both hands and provide for a secure stance. The power tool is guided more secure with both hands.
• Always ensure all handles and guards are fitted when using the machine. Never attempt to use an incomplete machine or one fitted with an unauthorized modification.
• Always lubricate the cutting blade with protective spray before use.
• Always wait until the machine has come to a complete stop before placing it down.
• Other persons and animals should remain at a distance of 3 metres or more when the machine is being used. The operator is responsible for third persons in the working area.
•  Never grasp the blade of the hedge trimmer.
• Children or persons unfamiliar with these instructions must not operate the hedge trimmer. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator.
• Never cut a hedge while people, especially children or pets, are nearby.
• The user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property.
• Do not operate the hedge timmer when barefoot or wear-ing open sandals, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. The use of sturdy gloves, non-skid footwear and safety glasses is recommended. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery which can be caught in moving parts.
• Thoroughly inspect the area where the hedge trimmer is to be used and remove all wires and other foreign objects.
• Prior to operation, check cutter blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly for wear or damage. Do not operate with a damaged or excessively worn cutting device.
• Know how to stop the hedge trimmer quickly in an emer-gency.
• Cut a hedge only in daylight or in good artificial light.
• Never operate the hedge trimmer with defective guards or without the guard in place.
• Always ensure all handles and guards supplied are fitted when using the hedge trimmer. Never attempt to use an incomplete hedge trimmer or one with an unauthorized modification.
• Never hold the hedge trimmer by the guard.
• When operating the hedge trimmer, ensure to keep proper footing and balance at all times.
• Always be aware of your surroundings and stay alert for possible hazards that you may not hear whilst operating the hedge trimmer.
• Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to ensure that the hedge trimmer is always in a safe working condition.
• The hedge trimmer should be stored in a dry, high or locked up place out of the reach of children.
• Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
• Do not attempt to repair the machine unless you are quali-fied to do so.
• Ensure replacement parts fitted are Bosch-approved.
• To safeguard against contact with the moving cutter blade, this hedge trimmer is constructed with two handles each with a blade control (switch). To operate the hedge trimmer, both controls must be actuated simul-taneously. Do not use the tool, if it runs without a switch being actuated or just one switch being actu-ated.

Electrical Safety
Warning: Switch off, remove plug from mains before adjusting, cleaning or if cable is cut, damaged or entangled. Your machine is double insulated for safety and requires no earth connection. The operating voltage is 230 V AC, 50 Hz (for non-EU countries 220 V, 240 V 50 Hz) Contact your Bosch Service Centre for details. If in doubt contact a quali-fied electrician or the nearest Bosch Service Centre.

For increased electrical safety use a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30 mA. Al-ways check your RCD every time you use it.
Keep the supply cables away from moving hazardous parts and avoid damage to the cables; this can lead to contact with live parts.
The connections (plugs and sockets) should be kept dry and off the ground.
The supply cables must be inspected for signs of damage at regular intervals and may only be used if in perfect condi-tion.
If the supply cable on the product is damaged, it must only be replaced by a Bosch Service Centre. Only use approved extension cables.
Use only extension cords, cables, leads, cable reels that comply with EN 61242/IEC 61242 or IEC 60884-2-7.
If you want to use an extension cable when operating your product, only the following cable dimensions should be used:

• Nominal conductor area of 1.25 mm2 or 1.5 mm2
• Maximum length 30 m for a Cord Extension Set or max-imum length of 60 m for a Cable Reel with Residual Cur-rent Device (RCD).
  Note: If an extension cable is used it must be earthed and connected through the plug to the earth cable of your supply network in accordance with prescribed safety regulations.

WARNING! Inadequate extension cables can be dangerous. Extension cable, plug and socket must be of watertight construction and intended for outdoor use.
Products sold in GB only:
Your product is fitted with an BS 1363/A approved electric plug with internal fuse (ASTA approved to BS 1362).
If the plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place by an au-thorised customer service agent. The replacement plug should have the same fuse rating as the original plug. The severed plug must be disposed of to avoid a possible shock hazard and should never be inserted into a mains socket elsewhere.

Products that are only sold in AUS and NZ: Use a resid-ual current device (RCD) with a nominal residual current of 30 mA or less.

Product Description and Specifications

The machine is intended for cutting and trimming hedges and bushes in domestic use.

Technical Data

The specifications apply to a rated voltage [U] of 230 V. These specifications may vary at different voltages and in country-specific models.

That the declared vibration total value(s) and the declared noise emission value(s) may also be used in a preliminary as-sessment of exposure.
That the vibration and noise emissions during actual use of the power tool can differ from the declared values depend-ing on the ways in which the tool is used especially what kind of workpiece is processed; and of the need to identify safety measures to protect the operator that are based on an estim-ation of the exposure measures in the actual conditions of use (taking account of all parts of the operating cycle such as the times when the tool is switched off and when it is running idle in addition to the trigger time).

Typically the A-weighted noise levels of the product are: Sound pressure level 75 dB(A); sound power level
95 dB(A). Uncertainty K = 2.0 dB.
Wear hearing protection!
Vibration total values ah (triax vector sum) and uncertainty K determined according to EN 62841-4-2:2019:
ah = 2.5 m/s2, K = 1.5 m/s2.

Operation

• Pay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the power source must match the voltage specified on the rating plate of the machine.

Switching ON/OFF (see figures C and D)
To switch ON, firstly press and hold the lock-off button for On/Off switch (3). Then press the On/Off switch (2) and keep it pressed.
To switch OFF, release the lock-off button for On/Off switch (3) and then release the On/Off switch (2).

Sawing Function
Although the tooth opening allows wood to be cut up to Ø  20 mm, the tip of the blade is designed to cut wood up to Ø 25 mm.

Working with the Hedgecutter (see figure E)
Move the hedgecutter evenly forward along the cutting line. The double edge cutting blade enables cutting in either direction, or with a side to side motion.
Cut the sides of the hedge first, then the top.
To cut the sides straightly, we recommend cutting from bot-tom to top in the direction of growth. Younger stems tend to move outwards when cutting them from top to bottom, res-ulting in shallow patches or holes in the hedge.
To reach a level finish, fasten a piece of string along the length of the hedge at the required height and use as an alignment guide. Cut the hedge just above the string.
Pay attention that no objects such as wires are cut. The blade or drive can be damaged.

• Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to ensure safe working with the product.
• Inspect the product and replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
• Ensure replacement parts fitted are Bosch-approved.
