IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Some of the following information may not apply to your particular product; however, when using baby monitor equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:

1. Read these instructions and keep them.
2. Heed and follow all warnings.
3. Do not use this apparatus near water. Clean only with a dry cloth.
4. Do not block any ventilation openings.
   Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
5. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
6. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
7. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
8. Unplug this appliance during lightning storms or when not used for long periods of time.
9.  Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped. Please check the power cord periodically to prevent potential damages, such as worn or cut cord. For assistance, see chapter ‘Warranty and support’.
10. Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual.
11. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
12. Products should not be used while you are in a bathtub, shower or pool. Immersion of the product in water could cause an electrical shock.
13. All the required markings are located on the battery compartment of the parent unit and on the inside of the rear panel of the baby unit.

WARNING:

STRANGULATION HAZARD. Children have STRANGLED in cords. Keep this cord out of the reach of children (more than 1 meter/3.5 feet away). Do not remove the tag (Fig. 1).

CAUTION
Caution: Prevent the risk of explosion, electric shock, short circuit, or leakage

– The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.
– Only use Philips recommended adapter (model S003GU0600050).
– To prevent electric shock, do not open the housing of the baby unit or parent unit except for the battery compartment of the parent unit.
– Make sure that your hands are dry when you insert or replace batteries or when you handle power cords or power plugs.
– For the parent unit, use only batteries of the type specified in this user manual. The danger of explosion if batteries are incorrectly replaced.
– The parent unit does not have a charging function.
– To prevent battery explosion or leakage, which can damage the baby monitor and cause burns and skin or eye irritation:
– do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries
– insert batteries in the right direction (+/-)
– remove batteries if you are not going to use the product for more than 30 days
– keep the batteries away from excessive heat such as sunshine, fire, or the like
– do not leave empty batteries in the parent unit.
– To prevent the batteries from heating up or releasing toxic materials, hydrogen, or oxygen, do not:
– overcharge
– short circuit
– reverse charge, or
– damage batteries
– To handle damaged or leaking batteries, wear protective gloves to protect your skin.
Adult supervision
– This baby monitor is intended as an aid. It is not a substitute for responsible and proper adult supervision and should not be used as such.
– Never place the baby unit inside the baby bed or playpen.
– For their safety, do not allow children to touch and play with the baby monitor and adapters.

Preparing for use Baby unit
The baby unit runs on electrical power and has a fixed power cord.

Parent unit
The parent unit runs on electrical power. You can also insert batteries to allow mobile use of the parent unit. For cordless use, insert two 1.5V R6 AA alkaline non-rechargeable batteries or two 1.2V R6 AA rechargeable batteries (not supplied).
The operating time on full batteries is up to 24 hours, depending on the type of batteries used and how often and how long you use the parent unit on batteries.

Using the baby monitor
Positioning the baby monitor
Keep the baby unit out of the reach of the baby.
Never place the baby unit inside the baby’s bed or playpen.
– Make sure that the baby unit and its cord are at least 1 meter/3.5 feet away from your baby.
– To prevent a high-pitched sound from one or both units, make sure the parent unit is at least
1.5 meters/4.9 feet away from the baby unit.

Linking parent unit and baby unit

1. Press and hold the 3 buttons on the baby unit for 3 seconds until the power-on light lights up. (Fig. 3)
2. Press and hold the 3 buttons on the parent unit for 3 seconds until the ‘link’ light starts flashing red. (Fig. 4)

• When the parent unit and baby unit are linked, the ‘link’ light turns solid green (Fig. 5).
• If no connection is established, the ‘link’ light continues to flash red and the parent unit beeps (Fig. 6).

What to do if no link is established
– If the parent unit is out of range, place it closer to the baby unit.
– If the baby unit or parent unit is too close to another DECT appliance (e.g. a cordless phone), turn off this appliance or move the unit away from this appliance.
– If the baby unit is turned off, turn it on.

Operating range

The operating range is up to 300 meters/985 feet outdoors and up to 50 meters/150 feet indoors. It varies depending on the surroundings and factors that cause signal attenuation. Wet and moist materials cause so much signal attenuation that the range loss is up to 100%. For signal attenuation from dry materials, see the table below.

Features

Smart Eco Mode
This baby monitor has Smart Eco mode as a standard feature. This mode automatically reduces the DECT signal from the baby unit to the parent unit to save energy and reduce radio transmission.

Baby unit

Nightlight
The nightlight produces a soft glow that comforts your baby. Press the button on top of the baby unit to turn the nightlight on or off.

Parent unit
Battery light

1. The battery light is off when the parent unit runs on electrical power or the batteries contain enough energy.
2. When the batteries are low, the battery light flashes red and the parent unit beeps (Fig. 7).
3. Replace the batteries when they are low. Setting the volume
4. Press the + button to increase the volume. You hear a beep each time you press the button. The sound level lights light up briefly to show the current volume (Fig. 8).
5. Press the – button to decrease the volume. If you hold down the – button for 2 seconds, you set the volume to mute. When set to mute, the sound level lights show that the
   baby makes sounds.

Cleaning and maintenance
– Do not use cleaning spray or liquid cleaners.
– Unplug the parent unit and baby unit before cleaning.
– Clean the parent unit, the baby unit, and the adapters with a dry cloth.

Storage precautions
– Remove the batteries from the parent unit if you do not use them for more than a month.
– Store the parent unit, its adapter, and the baby unit in a cool and dry place.
– Disposal of a battery into fire or a hot oven, or mechanically crushing or cutting of a battery, can result in an explosion. Avoid using batteries in extremely low temperatures or low air pressure.
