Intended use

The A 814 and A 814/1 holders enable the tips of processable air scalers and piezo scalers to be reprocessed in a Miele washer-disinfector.
Follow the operating instructions for your washer-disinfector as well as the instructions of the medical device manufacturer on how to reprocess their items by machine.

The holders can be used in the following baskets and modules:

  • A 105/1 upper basket
  • O 177/1 upper basket
  • A 315 module

Disposal of the packing material
The packaging is designed to protect against transportation damage.
The packaging materials used are selected from materials that are environmentally friendly for disposal and should be recycled. Recycling the packaging reduces the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also reduces the amount of waste in landfill sites.

Warning and Safety instructions

Read the operating instructions carefully before using this holder.
This prevents both personal injury and damage to the rinse fitting.
Keep these operating instructions in a safe place.

Please also read the operating instructions for your washer-disinfector and pay particular attention to the Warning and Safety instructions.

  • The holder is approved solely for the applications specified in the “Application technology” chapter of these operating instructions. All other uses, conversions, and modifications are not permitted.
  • Inspect all mobile units, baskets, modules, and inserts daily as described in the “Maintenance” section in the Operating instructions for the washer-disinfector.
  • New load carriers must be cleaned in the washer-disinfector without a load prior to first use.
  • To clean and disinfect lumened instruments thoroughly from the inside, they must be attached to the relevant holders or nozzles on the injector manifolds. The connectors must not come loose during a program sequence. At the end of every program sequence, check that the connectors have not come loose.
  • When handling tips for air scalers and piezo scalers, be careful not to injure yourself on the functional ends of the instruments. For your own safety, wear gloves and, if necessary, a surgical mask and protective goggles when sorting the instruments.
  • Any hollow items that have become disconnected from their injector nozzles, adapters or holders during processing must be re-processed.
  • The last rinse, as a minimum, must be carried out with DI water.

Areas of application

Installation

Remove a nozzle from the injector manifold of your upper basket or mobile unit.

A 814

  • Screw the holders in at this position.
  • Tighten the holders with the aid of an open spanner (width across flats 9 mm).

A 812 and A 813 adapters
To increase capacity, you can combine the A 814 and A 814/1 holders with the A 812 or A 813 adapters. Both adapters each have 4 ports. The A 814 and A 814/1 holders may be fitted to a maximum of 3 ports. The 4th port (in the centre) must always be sealed with a blind stopper.

  • The A 812 adapter can be used on injector manifolds with silicone holders.
  • The A 813 adapter is intended for use on injector manifolds with screw connections.

  • Follow the fitting instructions in the operating instructions for the A 812 and A 813 adapters.
  • Screw the A 814 and A 814/1 holders into the ports on the adapters.

Ports that are not in use must be sealed with a blind stopper.
The 4th port must always be sealed with a blind stopper.

Fitting to mobile units and baskets with silicone adapters
The A 814 and A 814/1 holders must be firmly screwed in place. In the case of baskets and mobile units with silicone adapters, an A 812 adapter must be used that can then be fitted with up to 3 A 814 and A 814/1 holders.

Inserting the A 814 and A 814/1 holders into a silicone adapter is not permitted.

Filters
The wash water used for reprocessing loads with narrow lumens needs to be filtered.

  • The injector manifold must be fitted with an A 800 tubular filter.
The tubular filter is supplied with its own operating instructions.
Follow the instructions on how to perform regular cleaning on the tubular filter.
An 813 adapter

When the A 813 adapter is used, an FP 20 filter plate can be inserted into the adapter instead of the tubular filter.
Do not insert a filter plate into the adapter if the injector manifold has been fitted with an A 800 tubular filter.

Reprocessing

For validation purposes please make sure that you follow the loading instructions given on the template.

Risk of infection due to insufficient disinfection.
Load items that become detached from the irrigation connector during reprocessing will not be sufficiently disinfected on the inside.
Any items that become detached from the irrigation connector during reprocessing must be reprocessed again.

The danger of injury: When handling tips for air scalers and piezo scalers, be careful not to injure yourself on the functional ends of the instruments. For your own safety, wear gloves and, if necessary, a surgical mask and protective goggles when sorting the instruments. To minimize the risk of injury, the inserts should be loaded from the back forwards and unloaded in the reverse order. Wear clean gloves when removing the inserts.

  • Remove the tip from the transmission instrument. Use the tools recommended by the instrument manufacturer, such as a torque spanner.
  • Remove the tip from the instrument.
  • If the instrument can be reprocessed by machine, place it in a lockable mesh tray, such as the E 197. Instruments with hollow spaces must be sorted with the opening facing downwards so that the water can enter and escape unhindered. Place the mesh tray in free space in the upper or lower basket or in the mobile unit or module.
  • Coarse soiling on the tips must be rinsed off under running water. Use the brushes recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Check that the cooling channel is free of blockages. The instrument manufacturers provide appropriate tools, such as brushes and cleaning wires, for this work. Blocked instruments must not continue to be used.
  • Instruments pretreated with cleaning or disinfection agents must be rinsed, for example under running water, before they are reprocessed in the washer-disinfector. Alternatively, you can start the Rinsing program before starting the reprocessing program.
  • Turn the screw cap anti-clockwise as far as it will go at the grip end of the A 814 and A 814/1 holders.

After reprocessing

  • Pick up the tip at the sharp end and place it sideways into the A 814 and A 814/1 holders.
  • Turn the screw cap of the holders clockwise as far as they will go. The tip is then encapsulated in the holder.
  • Turn the screw cap anti-clockwise as far as it will go at the grip end of the A 814 and A 814/1 holders.
  • Take hold of the tip at the sharp end and remove it sideways from the holders.
  • Perform a visual inspection to check the cleanliness of the tip.
  • After reprocessing, dry the tip – and the cooling channel in particular – with sterilized compressed air, then sterilize it following the manufacturer’s instructions. Observe national health and safety regulations.

Cleaning the A 800 tubular filter
Cleaning or replacing filters

The tubular filter must be cleaned at least once a week.
We recommend cleaning the tubular filter after every 10 program sequences.

Replacing FP 20 filter plates

  • Follow the cleaning instructions in the operating instructions for the tubular filter.
Borosilicate filter plates must be replaced approx. every 2 weeks or after 20 cycles have been run.
  • To do this, unscrew the adapter.
  • Unscrew the top part from the bottom part.

  • Remove the silicone adapter and the filter plate from the bottom part.
  • Rinse out the bottom part.
  • Insert a new FP 20 filter plate into the bottom part. The plate must restfully on the ring-shaped support of the bottom part.

Damaged or used filter plates must not be inserted under any circumstances.

  • Insert the silicone adapter into the bottom part.
  • Screw the top part and bottom part together.
  • Screw the adapter back onto the injector manifold.

Do not insert a filter plate into the holder if the injector manifold has been fitted with an A 800 tubular filter.
