Product Overview

Safety Notes

WARNING Read all safety warnings and instructions that were provided with the drill stand or the drill. Failure to follow the safety warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Save all safety warnings and instructions for future reference.

  • Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments or changing accessories. Starting drills accidentally is the cause of some accidents.
  • Assemble the drill stand properly before mounting the drill. The correct assembly is important in order to ensure proper function.
  • Before using, fasten the drill securely to the drill stand. An unsecured drill in the drill stand can lead to loss of control.
  • Fasten the drill stand on a firm and level surface. When the drill stand can slip away or wobble, then the drill can-not be guided uniformly and securely.
  • Keep the connection cable of the drill away from the working area. Damaged or entangled cables increase the risk of an electric shock.
  • Maintain the drill stand with care. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the function of the drill stand. Have damaged parts been repaired before using the drill stand? Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained devices.
  • Has your drill stand been serviced/repaired only by a qualified repair person using original replacement parts? This will ensure that the safety of the device is maintained.
  • The safety warnings and working instructions for the drill as well as for the drilling tools and accessories being used are to be strictly observed!
  • Do not overload the drill stand and do not use it as a ladder or scaffold. Overloading or standing on the drill stand can raise the drill stand’s center of gravity and cause it to tip over.
  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
  • Avoid abnormal body posture. Provide for a secure stance and keep your balance at all times. In this manner, you can control the power tool better in unexpected situations.
  • Store idle drill stands out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the device or these instructions to operate the device. Drill stands are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
  • Before any work on the drill stand or drill, during work breaks and when not in use, secure the drill stand against unintentional moving by tightening the parking brake 13.
  • The power tool may only be operated on a mains supply with a protective conductor and adequate dimensioning.
  • Always fasten the drill stand using anchors or vacuum (accessory) to prevent accidental tipping of the drill stand with an inserted diamond drill and core bit.

  • When wet drilling over-head, the escaping water must be collected. To do this, insert the power tool into a drill stand and mount a water collecting ring (see “Mounting the Water Collection Ring”, page 12).
  • Ensure that water-carrying hoses, connectors and the water collection ring (accessory) are in immaculate condition. Replace damaged or worn parts before the next use. Water escaping from parts of the power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Observe valid national and international standards.

Assembly

Mounting the Drill Stand
Erecting the Drilling Column
Put the drilling column 4 in a vertical position. Insert the lower screw 8 (see illustration on the graphics page). Tighten the lower screw 8 and the upper screw 5 using an open-end spanner (size 17 mm). Tighten the clamping nut 11 using an open-end spanner (size 24 mm).
Star Handle
Screw the three handlebars of the star handle 1 all the way into the central hub of the star handle. The star handles 1 serve as the feed crank during drilling. To drill, slide the star handle left or right, as required, all the way onto the feed pinion 12. Pull the star handle off firmly to remove it.
Feed Lock with Parking Brake
Before first-time use, screw the parking brake 13 into the free threaded hole underneath the feed pinion 12.
Lock the feed when performing any work on the drill stand, during work breaks and when not using the drill stand. To do so, turn on the parking brake 13.
To drill, loosen the parking brake 13 until the star handle 1 is easy to move. When doing so, hold the star handle in place in order to prevent the drill from sliding down in an uncontrolled manner.
Mounting the Diamond Drill (see figure A)
Remove the auxiliary handle of your drill (see operating instructions of the drill). Ensure that the parking brake 13 is on. Loosen screw 2 on the drill fixture using an open-end spanner (size 13 mm). Insert the drill with the collar from above all the way into the drill fixture 3. Turn the drill in the drill fixture so that all switches are easy to reach and the dust extraction/water cooling connection on the drill does not interfere with drilling. Tighten the screw 2 using the open-end spanner (size 13 mm). Slide the star handle 1 right or left onto the feed pinion 12 in order to drill.

  • Check the tight seating of the drill in the drill fixture.

To remove the drill from the drill stand, complete the steps in reverse order.
Fastening the Drill Stand
Note: Fasten the drill stand free from play to prevent jamming of the core bit and the tearing out of segments. Depending on the type and condition of the surface, fasten the drill stand at the planned borehole using anchors or a vacuum.
Positioning the Drill Stand before Fastening
Mark the center of the borehole you want to drill on the surface. Mark the outer dimensions of the core bit you want to drill with, using the center of the borehole as the center of the bit. Fasten the drill stand (with drill inserted) using anchors or vacuum so that the mounted core bit is aligned with the marked dimensions.
Fastening with Anchor (see figure B)
For fastening of the drill stand to brickwork or concrete with anchor (accessory), drill a separate anchor hole.

The following dimensions apply to the anchor hole:

Insert a concrete hammer-drive anchor or a brickwork anchor 16. Screw the quick-clamping spindle 17 into the anchor. Position the drill stand, attach a washer, and then screw together with the wing nut 18. After leveling (see “Levelling”), tighten the wing nut using an open-end spanner, size 27 mm.
Fastening with Vacuum (Accessory)
To fasten the drill stand with a vacuum, you require a conventional vacuum pump and a Bosch vacuum set (accessory). The vacuum pump must meet the following minimum requirements:

Volume flow: 6 m3/h
Vacuum at least: 80 % (–800 bar)

The surface must be smooth and flat in order to fasten with a vacuum. Use on plaster or brickwork is not permitted. Once the vacuum connection has been established, apply the leveling screws 6 lightly to the surface so that the drill stand is in a rigid position and the sealing ring relaxes slightly. Otherwise, the drill stand will sit very softly on the sealing ring. Read and observe the operating instructions of the vacuum pump and Bosch vacuum set in order to connect them.

  • The safety and operating instructions for the vacuum pump and vacuum set are to be strictly observed! Leveling (does not apply for fastening with vacuum)

Turn the leveling screws 6 in or out individually until the spirit level 14 on the drill (when mounting vertically) or the spirit level 15 on the drill (when mounting horizontally) is precisely aligned. Now fix the drill stand firmly using anchor attachment.

Operation

  • Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments or changing accessories. Starting drills accidentally is the cause of some accidents.
  • After each adjustment on the drill stand, firmly retighten all screws.

Drilling-angle Adjustment
Loosen the lower screw 8 of the drilling-angle adjustment using an open-end spanner (size 17 mm) and take it off. Loosen the upper screw 5 using an open-end spanner (size 17 mm). Loosen the clamping nut 11 using an open-end spanner (size 24 mm). Set the drill stand to the required drilling angle. Retighten the clamping nut 11 using the open-end spanner. Tighten the upper screw 5 using an open-end spanner (size 17 mm).

  • The drill stand must not be inserted until the clamping nut 11 and screw 5 of the angle adjustment have been retightened.

After drilling, put drilling column 4 back in the vertical position in reverse order (drilling angle of 0°). To do so, you have
to insert the lower screw 8 again and tighten it using an open-ended spanner (size 17 mm).
Water Extraction
You require a water collection ring and a wet/dry vacuum cleaner (both accessories) to collect the water escaping from the borehole during wet drilling. The water collection ring (see “Accessories”, page 13) is intended for use with the drill stand for diamond drills GCR 180 and the diamond drill GDB 180 WE.
Mounting the Water Collection Ring (see figure C)
Cut an opening for the required drilling diameter in the sealing lid. Slide the tension spring 19 all the way into the gap between the bottom plate 9 and the drilling column 4. Ensure that the angled part of the tension spring faces downwards. Bring the water collection ring into position and place the tension spring on the contact points on the water collection ring. (The lugs on the ends of the tension spring are used to pull the tension spring upwards.) The tensioning force of the spring will press the water collection ring with its seal onto the surface and together with the vacuum of the wet/dry vacuum cleaner will prevent water from escaping.

Working Advice
For drilling, observe the operating instructions of your diamond drill. To drill, loosen the parking brake 13 until the star handle 1 is easy to move. When doing so, hold the star handle in place in order to prevent the drill from sliding down in an uncontrolled manner. Use the star handle 1 to turn the drill down to the required drilling depth. Then, turn the crank back until the core bit is completely visible. To achieve the maximum possible working length, you have to remove the drill core as soon as it completely fills the core bit. Then feed the core bit back into the bore hole and drill to the maximum depth.

Maintenance and Service

Maintenance and Cleaning
Always keep rack 10 and the guide surfaces of the der drilling column 4 clean.
Readjusting the Sliding Guides (see figure D)
Over time the sliding guides 20 can wear down, resulting in play between the sliding guides and the drilling column. To eliminate this play, you have to readjust the sliding guides. Loosen all ten hex nuts 21 using an open-end spanner (size 13 mm). Then tighten the threaded pins 22 evenly until the play is minimized. Retighten all ten hex nuts 21. The sliding guides do not need to be replaced until the sliding layer (red color) is worn down. This is the case when the red color has disappeared and the backing material is revealed. We recommend having the replacement done by an authorised customer service agent for Bosch power tools.
