Foreword
RF Energy Exposure and Product Safety Guide for Portable Two-Way Radios

ATTENTION!
The Lightweight Headset with Swivel Boom Microphone, when attached to the radio, is restricted to occupational use only to satisfy FCC RF energy exposure requirements. Before using this product, read the RF Energy Exposure and Product Safety Guide that ships with the radio which contains instructions for safe usage and RF energy awareness and control for compliance with applicable standards and regulation.

DESCRIPTION
The PMLN6634 Lightweight Headset with Swivel Boom Microphone can be used to help maintain privacy in two-way radio conversations. This lightweight accessory is useful when high noise levels prevent the operator from hearing sound out of the radio speaker. Additionally, this headset facilitates hands-free use of the radio. The PMLN6634 includes an in-line Push-To-Talk (PTT) switch
for easier PTT access.
Wearing the Headset
To minimize interference and optimize headset performance, wear the radio and headset so that the accessory cord will not cross over or touch the antenna.
The headset fits comfortably over the head and can be adjusted to fit most head sizes. The headset speaker can rest over the right or left ear. For hygiene reasons, it is recommended that each headset user have and use his/ her own speaker foam earpads. (See SERVICE section for Motorola Solutions earpad part number.)

OPERATION
Attaching the Headset to the Radio

  1.  Turn the radio off.
  2. Remove the side connector cover from the side of the radio, attach the headset connector to the radio, and tighten the thumbscrew to secure the connection.
  3. Turn the radio on and adjust the audio volume to a comfortable listening level.

Receiving
When the headset is connected to the radio accessory connector, the radio’s speaker is muted, and the audio is only heard from the headset speaker.
Transmitting
When using the PMLN6634 Lightweight Headset (with in-line PTT), push the PTT switch on the cable to transmit.
Removing the Headset
Turn the radio off before removing the headset from the radio side connector. Remember to reattach the radio side connector cover when an accessory is not being used.
ACOUSTIC SAFETY
Exposure to loud noises from any source for extended periods of time may temporarily or permanently affect your hearing. The louder the radio’s volume, the less time is required before your hearing can be affected. Hearing damage from loud noises is sometimes undetectable at first and can have a cumulative effect.
To protect your hearing:

  • Use the lowest volume necessary to do your job.
  • Increase the volume only if you are in noisy surroundings.
  • Reduce the volume before connecting the headset.
  • Limit the amount of time you use headsets at a high volume.
  •  When using the radio without a headset, do not place the radio’s speaker directly against your ear.
  • If you experience hearing discomfort, ringing in your ears, or speeches that are muffled, you should stop listening to your radio through your headset, and have your hearing checked by your doctor.
