Selecting an installation site

This remote controller is for the wall installation. It can be installed either in the switch box or directly on the wall. When performing direct wall installation, wires can be thread through either back or top of the remote controller.

Selecting an installation site
To prevent injury, install the controller on a flat surface strong enough to support its weight.

Important

  • To reduce the risk of shorting, current leakage, electric shock, malfunctions, smoke, or fire, do not install the controller in a place exposed to water or in a condensing environment.
  • To avoid deformation and malfunction, do not install the remote controller in direct sunlight or where the ambient temperature may exceed 40ºC (104ºF) or drop below 0ºC (32ºF).
  • To reduce the risk of malfunctions and damage to the controller, avoid installing the remote controller on an electrically conductive surface, such as an unpainted metal sheet.

Installation space
Leave a space around the remote controller as shown in the figure at right, regardless of whether the controller is installed in the switch box or directly on the wall. Removing the remote controller will not be easy with insufficient space. Also, leave an operating space in front of the remote controller.

Installation method

Remove the front casing

1)Remove the filter cover and the filter case towards your side (three locations).2) Remove the screws from the front casing (VL-350: four locations, VL-250: two locations). Remove the front casing.

Removing the remote controller
  1. Remove the front cover of the remote controller. Insert a flat-tip screwdriver (blade width: 5 mm) into the latches at the bottom of the remote controller, and move it in the direction of the arrow as shown. Remove the front cover by pulling it towards you as the latches will be unhooked.Note:
    • Do not insert the flat head screwdriver forcefully. (Damage on the circuit board could result.)
    • Do not turn the flat head screwdriver forcefully while it is inserted into the latch. (Damage on the case could result.)
  2. Remove the remote controller from the unit.
    1. Remove the screws attaching the bottom case and the unit (two locations).

Install the cable with noise filter
  1. Remove the two screws from the control box and pull it out. Remove the insulating sheet from the control box.
  2. Detach the connectors of the TM4 cable and the lead wire on the unit side. Attach the accessory terminal protective cap on the connector of the lead wire on the unit side.
  3. Connect the connector of the accessory cable with noise filter to the TM4 cable.
  4. Store the cable with noise filter along with the side face of the control box as shown and pass the cable through the code bush.
    Note:
    • Do not pass the cable with noise filter through bushes other than the bush shown below.
    • Place the noise filter in the gap with the circuit board of the controller box.
    • Pull out the cable with noise filter until the packing touches the bush.
  5. Install the insulating sheet on the control box. Insert the control box to the unit, attach two screws. (Don’t forget to place the insulating sheet)
Bind the cable with noise filter with a cable strap (supplied with the unit) and attach it under the unit. (It is recommended to install it with flexibility so that it will not be loaded from the outside.)

Install the remote controller
  1. Loosen the two screws from the terminal block and remove the terminal cable from the bottom case.
  2. Connect the remote controller cable (field supplied) to the terminal block on the bottom case.
Peel off 6 mm of the remote controller cable sheath as shown in the figure below, and thread the cable from behind the bottom case. Thread the cable to the front of the bottom case so that the peeled part of the cable cannot be seen behind the bottom case. Connect the remote controller cable to the terminal block on the bottom case.
