Read the Operating Manual

Read this operating manual carefully, observing all the information contained regarding handling and using the laminator. Keep the operating manual close by for future reference.

Intended Use

The laminator has been conceived to complete hot lamination using hot laminating pouches and cold lamination using cold laminating pouches with a pouch thickness of 75 – 125 micron. The total thickness of the documents to be laminated (photos, pictures, cards, paper etc.) may be maximally 0.5 mm.
The laminator is only intended for private use in closed, indoor rooms. Unauthorized modifications or alterations are not permitted. Never open the laminator yourself or attempt to perform repairs yourself. Repairs may only be carried out by properly trained specialists.
Any other use is considered unintended use. Unauthorized modifications or reconstructions are not permitted and lead to loss of rights to claims under the terms of the guarantee.

Observe the Safety Information

Read and observe all the warnings to protect yourself and the environment from any harm.
Warning! Risk of injury through electric shock. Improper handling of the laminator can lead to an electric shock. Ensure that the laminator is set up near an easily accessible power socket so that the laminator can be disconnected from the power supply in an emergency. Never take hold of the laminator with wet hands. Avoid any contact with water. Always unplug the power plug when the device is not being used. Only use the power cable supplied.
Warning! Risk of suffocation through small parts, packaging materials or protective foils. Children can swallow small parts, packaging materials and protective foils. Keep children away from the laminator and its packaging materials.
Warning! Risk of injury through the feed mechanism. Loose items could get caught in the insertion slot and cause injuries. Keep fingers, hair, scarves, ties, jewelry etc. well away from the infeed.
Warning! Risk of tripping due to improperly laid power cable. Lay the power cable in such a way that nobody can trip over it. Make sure the power plug and cable cannot be damaged.
Warning!
Risk to health through harmful vapors. Vapors that are damaging to health can develop during lamination. Always ensure good ventilation during lamination, by opening a window for example.
Caution!
Risk of burns through hot machine surface! During the laminating process, the machine’s surface heats up. Do not touch the machine’s surface during the laminating operation. Wait a few minutes after laminating until the laminator has cooled down before you touch it.
Caution!
Risk of burns through hot laminating pouch. When the laminating pouch is ejected after lamination, it is extremely hot. Only remove the lamination pouch by holding it at the cooled end.
Caution!
Risk of burns through hot residual laminated material. After cleaning, very hot residual laminated material is stuck to the ejected paper. Only remove the ejected paper holding it at the cooled end.
Important!
Risk of property damage. Avoid exposing the device to environmental influences such as smoke, dust, vibration, chemicals, moisture, heat or direct sunlight. Only use the laminator in indoor areas and within the ambient conditions permitted and stipulated in “Technical Data”.

The laminator can be used by children from the age of eight and by persons with restricted physical, sensory or mental capabilities or a lack of experience and/or knowledge when they are under supervision or have been instructed on the safe use of the laminator and understand the risks involved if it is not used properly.
Do not let children play with the laminator. Children must not be allowed to complete any cleaning or service work on the device without adequate supervision.

Checking the Package Contents

Check the package contents of the laminator before putting the laminator into operation. If anything is missing or damaged, do not put the laminator into operation. Contact our Service department.

• 1 trimmer
• 1 corner rounder
• 15 laminating pouches (3 × A4, 4 × A5, 4 × A6, 4 × business card)

The following figure shows the laminator in detail.

Laminator Operating Modes

The laminator can process all cold and hot laminating pouches in thicknesses 75 μ, 80 μ and 125 μ.
Hot Laminating
When “hot laminating” mode is active, the laminating pouch is heated to a temperature of approx. 120 °C to 150 °C as it passes through the laminator rollers. This creates a permanent thermal bonding of the laminated material and the laminating pouch. Hot lamination permanently prevents the laminated material from coming into contact with water, oxygen, and bacteria.
Cold Laminating
When “cold laminating” mode is active, the laminating pouch is heated to a temperature of approx. 25 °C. The laminating pouches are coated with a special adhesive. The sides of the laminating pouches are pressed together during the laminating process. A detachable bond is produced and the material can be removed if necessary without any damage.

Positioning and Starting Up the Laminator

The following section should help when starting up the laminator.

1. Set the laminator down on a level, stable working surface close to an easily accessible bow socket.
2. Switch the power switch to OFF.
   Only use the power cable supplied.
3. Connect the power cable to the connection socket in the laminator.
4. Connect the power plug to a power socket.
5. Switch the power switch to ON.
   →The transport rollers start to rotate.
   →The “COLD” status LED lights up GREEN
6. Fold-out the pouch tray (lid).
   → The laminator has been put into operation.

Before You Start

Please observe the following information to ensure the continued reliable operation of the laminator.
Information on the Material

• Do not laminate metallic, wet or uneven materials.
•  The material to be laminated, including the laminating pouch, must not be thicker than 0.5 mm.
• Thin and soft materials should be laminated in laminating pouches with the largest foil thickness (125 µ).
• If possible, do not use too many small pieces of material in one laminating pouch.

Information on the Laminating Pouches

• Only use foil pouches intended for lamination purposes.
• Other types of foil, such as transparent film, are not suitable for laminating.
• Only use hot laminating pouches for “Hot laminating” operating mode.
• Only use cold laminating pouches for “Cold laminating” operating mode.
• Choose the size of laminating pouch according to the material to be laminated.
• If laminating pouches need to be cut, only cut the laminating pouches after laminating.

Information on the Laminating Process

• Do not insert an empty laminating pouch in the infeed (rear) of the laminator.
• Do not insert a laminating pouch when rolled up into the infeed (rear) of the laminator.
• Do not insert a laminating pouch to one side of the infeed (rear) of the laminator.
• Always insert the laminating pouch with the closed side first, centered, and straight into the infeed (rear) of the laminator, which is ready to operate.
• Do not pull the laminating pouch out of the output side (front) during laminating.

Please remember that hot laminated materials are permanently bonded to the laminating pouch and cannot be separated from the foil again without possible damage.

Operating the Laminator

The following section describes how to complete hot lamination and cold lamination.

If the laminator is not used for a period of 30 minutes, the laminator enters Standby mode. Press the “Operating mode” button to make the device operational.

1. Press the “Operating mode” button several times, if necessary, until the required type of lamination is selected.
   Hot laminating: The options “125Mic” and “75Mic/80Mic” are available.
   Cold laminating: On selecting the “Cold” option, cold lamination is activated.
   →One of the status LEDs (125Mic || 75Mic/80Mic) flashes GREEN and the warm-up phase begins or the status LED (Cold) lights up GREEN continuously and the laminator is ready to operate.
   Hot laminating: After the warm-up phase has ended, a status LED lights up GREEN continuously and the laminator is ready to operate.
   Cold laminating: When the laminator was previously used in “Hot laminating” mode, the laminator must be allowed to cool down for approx. 30 minutes before it is ready to operate.
   Caution! Risk of burns through hot machine surface! The laminator heats up during hot lamination. Do not touch the device’s surface during operation.
2. Place the material to be laminated inside the laminating pouch. For the best results, leave a space of 3 mm to 5 mm at the margin on all sides.
3. Insert the laminating pouch in the infeed (rear) of the laminator when ready to operate.→ The laminating pouch is drawn in and discharged on the output side (front) of the laminator.
   Caution!
   Risk of burns through the hot laminating pouch.
   When the laminating pouch is ejected after lamination, it is extremely hot. Only remove the ejected lamination pouch holding it at the cooled end.
4. Remove the laminating pouch from the device.
5. Switch the power switch to OFF.
   →The lamination process has been completed.
   Caution! Risk of burns through hot machine surface!
   Wait a few minutes after switching off until the laminator has cooled down before you touch it.

Ending Operation of the Laminator

Switch the laminator off when you want to stop using the laminator.

1. Switch the power switch to OFF.
2. Disconnect the power plug from the power socket.
3. Disconnect the power cable from the socket.
4. Fold the pouch tray (lid) back up.
   →The operation of the laminator has been ended.

Using the Trimmer and Corner Rounder

When required, you can cut the paper to be laminated or the laminating pouch to size using the trimmer and cut the corners of the pouch with the corner rounder.
Please note that you must not insert more than three sheets of paper (80 g/m²) and not more than one laminated document in the trimmer or corner rounder at a time.
Using the Trimmer
The trimmer is on the underside of the laminator.
Caution!
Risk of injury through sharp cutting device!
Do not touch the knife blade in the trimmer.

1. Release the trimmer from the holder on the underside (A).
2. Guide the paper/pouch under the trimmer (B).
3. Press the cutting head downwards and guide the cutting head over the paper/pouch (C). Fix the material in place with your hand so that it does not shift while being cut.

→The paper/pouch has been cut as required.

Using the Corner Rounder

The corner rounder is either enclosed as an accessory (OneLam 400 A4) or is fitted on the underside of the laminator (OneLam 400 A3).
Caution!
Risk of injury through sharp cutting device!
Do not touch the knife blades in the corner rounder.

1. Remove the corner rounder from the packaging (OneLam 400 A4) or remove the corner rounder from the holder (OneLam 400 A3).
2. Fit a corner of the paper/pouch in the corner rounder (D).
3. Press the corner rounder together.
4. If necessary, repeat the process on all the corners of the paper/pouch.
   → The corners of the paper/pouch have been rounded.

Troubleshooting

Clearing Pouch Jams
Pouches can jam due to the following:

• the laminating pouch was not inserted straight into the laminator.
• the transport rollers are soiled with residual adhesive.
• an unsuitable laminating pouch or material has been used.

1. Switch the power switch to OFF.
2. Disconnect the power plug from the power socket.
3. Press the “ABS roller release” to the left and hold it at this position.
   →This releases the laminating pouch.
   Caution!
   Risk of burns through hot machine surface!
   The laminator heats up during hot lamination. Wait a few minutes after switching off until the laminator has cooled down before you touch it.
   Caution!
   Risk of burns through hot laminating pouch.
   When the laminating pouch is ejected after lamination, it is extremely hot. Only remove the ejected lamination pouch holding it at the cooled end.
4. Carefully pull the laminating pouch out of the infeed (rear) of the laminator.
5. Release the “ABS roller release” lever.
   →The pouch jam has been cleared.
6. Clean the laminator.

Maintenance and Service

Clean the laminator at regular intervals and as necessary.
Cleaning the Housing

1. Switch the power switch to OFF.
2. Disconnect the power plug from the power socket.
   Caution!
   Risk of burns through hot machine surface!
   The laminator heats up during hot lamination. Wait a few minutes after switching off until the laminator has cooled down before you touch it.
   Important!
   Risk of property damage through cleaning agents and solvents. Do not use any solvents or cleaning agents.
3. Clean the surface of the housing with a soft, slightly moist, lint-free cloth.
   →The surface of the laminator has been cleaned.

Cleaning the Transport Rollers
Adhesive residues and other deposits on the rollers can impair the lamination result. Remove these at regular intervals and whenever the lamination result is not as good as expected.

1. Activate the laminator so that it is ready to operate.
2. Press the “Operating mode” button several times until you have selected the required pouch thickness (125Mic || 75Mic/80Mic).
   You can select any pouch thickness. Check that the Status LED is flashing GREEN. When the warm-up phase has elapsed, the Status LED lights up GREEN continuously and the transport rollers can be cleaned.
   Caution!
   Risk of burns through hot machine surface!
   The laminator heats up during hot lamination. Do not touch the device’s surface during operation.
3. Fold a sheet of paper and feed it into the infeed (rear) of the laminator with the folded edge first and keep it straight.
   Caution!
   Risk of burns through hot residual adhesive.
   The residual adhesive on the paper discharged is very hot. Only remove the ejected paper holding it at the cooled end.
   The paper is discharged on the output side (front) with the residual adhesive stuck to it.
4. Repeat the process until no further residual adhesive is on the paper.
5. Switch the laminator off.
   →The transport rollers of the laminator have been cleaned.

Technical Data

Disposal

The adjacent symbol indicates laws dictate that electrical and electronic apparatus no longer required must be disposed of separate from domestic waste. Disposal is free of charge. Dispose of your device at a collection point provided by your local public waste authority. Packaging materials must be disposed of according to local regulations.

Information on Storage

The laminator must be stored safely after use. Observe the following information:
Store the laminator

• in its original packaging
• in a dry, clean location
• in a cooled state
